Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. No events planned. Just rest and prepare for the adventure to come as we explore the Magic of Morocco. Overnight in Marrakech
After breakfast in your hotel. We will drive to Casablanca (3 hrs) to take a tour of Hassan II Mosque, the only mosque in Morocco that allows non-Muslims to enter. The mosque sits at the edge of the city with the Atlantic Ocean as its beautiful backdrop. It is the second largest functioning mosque in Africa and the 7th largest in the world. Its minaret is the world’s second tallest. 1 hr. tour to see the inside of the mosque (optional $12). After the tour we will continue onto Rabat (1 hr) and overnight there. In Rabat we will see the Oudayas Kasbah and Hassan Tower.
After breakfast we will drive to Chefchaouen, the blue city, located in the Rif Mountains of northwest Morocco, is known for the striking, blue-washed buildings of the old town.
You can stroll (on your own) in the blue alleyways, where leather and weaving workshops line its steep cobbled lanes. Optional activities can be arranged if desired (not included in tour price.) In the main square of Place Outa el Hammam is the red-walked Kasbah, a 15-century fortress and dungeon, Chefchaouen
After breakfast in your riad, we will drive to Fez. In the afternoon, you meet your local guide and the exploration of Fes begins. You will visit the Royal Palace, founded back to the foundation of the new Fes. Then on to Mellah, the Jewish quarter, where you see a 17th-century synagogue. Also, The University of al-Qarawiyyin, founded as a mosque, then became one of the leading spiritual and educational centers of the historic Muslim world. As well as Chouara Tannery, the largest and oldest at the oldest Medina quarter of the city, surrounded by leather shops with terraces from where you look down onto the pits. Overnight in Fes.
After breakfast we will drive to Boulaajoul. Along the way we will see the cedar forest in the middle Atlas Mountains and the town of Ifrane.
On this day, after breakfast at your riad, we will make our way to Merzouga for your first overnight of the trip in the Sahara Desert at Erg Chebibi. You can ride a camel (optional) Overnight at desert camp
After breakfast in the desert, we will drive to the city of Zagora where we will have lunch. On our way to our Riad in Tagounite, we will stop for a demonstration at a pottery cooperative.
After breakfast we will visit one of the famous sites in Morocco, the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a fortified castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A place where popular movies have been filmed. Such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia. Then we will continue our way south descending the Atlas Mountains to the small village of Tagounite and then to our riad for the night. We will have a relaxing evening including Moroccan tea, dinner and entertainment at this traditional family guesthouse that I helped build. Overnight in Tagounite at Riad Dar Talmoudi.
Today we will take in the local culture of southern Morocco. We have the opportunity to participate in a cooking class, enjoy local music, henna art, visit a local school or other community activity, volunteer projects, go fishing or swimming. Overnight at Riad Dar Talmoudi.
Setting out for our overnight in the Sahara Desert, we will go by 4×4 on a desert safari stopping to have tea or lunch with a family that is still living the nomadic life. We will see the place where Moroccan traders used to meet others to make the long and dangerous route to Timbuktu an ancient major trading center for gold and salt. Lunch is provided along the way.
After arriving at our desert camp at Erg Chigaga, the largest dunes in Morocco, we will be welcomed with Moroccan tea and treats. Just before sunset we will take our own camel caravan into the dunes for a memorable ride and photos.
Later we will be served a delicious dinner. After dinner, we can gather under the night sky and enjoy a campfire with traditional music. Overnight at the desert camp. The camp is well-equipped. Rooms are tents or earthen rooms with a regular bed with comfortable mattress and separate bathrooms with hot showers and western toilets. Overnight Sahara Desert Camp
We will make our way across a different part of the Sahara through Lake Iriki National Park. The lake nowadays is mostly dry. It was a favorite place of the southern gazelles. It was established to protect the biodiversity, flora and fauna across 123,000 hectares of south-eastern Morocco. We will also stop at a Berber womans’ carpet co-op to see a demonstration and learn how the carpets are made. Overnight: Tisselday.
After breakfast we will drive to the quaint port town of Essaouira. Along the way we will stop to see the famous goats in the argan trees. Essaouira has its own fortified old medina that is protected by the 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah. Old brass cannons line the walls surrounding the old city that looks out into the ocean. Overnight in Essouria.
You may have a leisurely day at this beautiful seaside town. Optional activity are available: ride camels or horses on the beach, experience a hammam ( Moroccan spa).
After
